Answers to Your Questions

Everything you need to know before starting your counselling journey — from understanding the process to booking your first session.

Here are some signs that counselling could be helpful for you:

Emotional Signs:
  • You feel overwhelmed, sad, anxious, or angry most of the time.
  • Your emotions are interfering with daily life (work, relationships, self-care).
  • You're using unhealthy coping mechanisms (substances, self-harm, excessive isolation, etc.).
  • You've experienced trauma, grief, or a major life change that you're struggling to process.
Behavioral Signs:
  • You're withdrawing from friends, family, or activities you once enjoyed.
  • Your sleep or appetite has changed significantly (too much or too little).
  • You're having frequent conflicts with others or avoiding social interactions.
  • You're engaging in risky behaviors to numb or escape emotions.
Mental Signs:
  • You have persistent negative thoughts, self-criticism, or hopelessness.
  • You're overthinking, struggling with decision-making, or feeling mentally "stuck."
  • You experience intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, or excessive worry.
  • You feel disconnected from yourself or reality (dissociation).
Physical Signs:
  • Unexplained fatigue, body aches, or stress-related symptoms (headaches, stomach issues).
  • Your mental state is affecting your physical health.

Talking your heart out to a friend or someone you trust provides emotional support, love, and connection, which are vital for well-being and taking the 'heaviness' off your heart. You are blessed to have such support in your life.

However, your friend or the trusted individual may:

  • Offer advice based on personal opinions or biases, even if well-intentioned.
  • Not lead towards a meaningful change.
  • Unintentionally share your struggles with others or react emotionally.
  • Offer sympathy or quick fixes ("Just cheer up!"), which may not address deeper issues.

On the contrary, talking to a counsellor:

  • Provides professional, confidential, and structured support.
  • Offers unbiased guidance, evidence-based coping strategies, and a safe and judgement-free space to explore deep emotions.
  • Helps you identify patterns, process trauma, and set healthy boundaries.
  • Builds long-term resilience, making it especially valuable for stress, anxiety, relationship issues, or unresolved past experiences.

Great question! While there are many counselling services available, Sparkz Counselling distinguishes itself in the following ways:

  • Professional — We selectively engage highly qualified and experienced Professional Counsellors, Psychotherapists and Psychologists with the right credentials.
  • Affordable Services — We collaborate with NGOs and social service organisations to provide subsidies, making services accessible to every individual.
  • Multi-Language Approach — We are one of the very few companies in Singapore providing services in English, Tamil, Malay and Chinese.
  • FREE 20-min introductory session. Book a free session now!
  • Fully subsidised clients will receive a free session. If you need a subsidy, do contact us.

Yes. We collaborate with NGOs and social service organisations to provide subsidies. If you need a subsidy, do contact us.

This subsidy is a win-win for all. Below is how the subsidy works:

  • Client applies for subsidy at Sparkz Counselling.
  • Sparkz Counselling screens the application.
  • Shortlisted applications are sent to NGOs and social service organisations.
  • We are notified of the outcome and we notify the client.
  • Client agrees to the subsidy and proceeds with the session.
  • Client pays the subsidised rate; the NGO pays the remainder.
  • Sparkz Counselling pays the assigned counsellor the full professional fees.
  • There is NO difference in quality compared to a non-subsidised session.

No. Every client at Sparkz Counselling is served by a professional counsellor. We firmly believe every individual deserves professional mental health support, regardless of their financial capability.

You need not prepare anything prior to the session. However, our clients find it useful to jot down some crucial points that they would like to explore with their counsellors.

You are not required to bring anything when you come for the session. You may bring a jacket to help you stay comfortable when it's chilly.

  • For your first visit only, come 15 minutes early to complete a quick registration.
  • For follow-up sessions, arrive 10 minutes early.
  • Once you arrive, kindly message the counsellor, take a seat and wait for your session to begin.

Therapy length and the number of sessions differ depending on the client's unique situation.

Some clients complete therapy with just 3–5 sessions for 'quick fixes'. Others have taken up to 20 sessions to feel lasting and sustainable change.

Below are some guidelines on the process of counselling:

  • Building Rapport (Initial Stage) — 1–3 Sessions
  • Assessment and Exploration (Early Stage) — 2–5 Sessions
  • Goal Setting and Intervention (Middle Stage) — 3–6 Sessions
  • Evaluation and Consolidation (Later Stage) — 1–3 Sessions
  • Termination and Follow-Up (Final Stage) — 1–3 Sessions

Please share any feedback, positive or negative, with us. Positive feedback allows us to leverage our strengths. Negative feedback allows us to improve and serve you better in the future.

Yes. Please make the payment when booking the session. Without payment, your reserved slot will be released to others 2 days prior to the booking time.

We understand you may have a turn of events that requires you to postpone a session. We are ready to accommodate your change as long as we are updated at least 2 days (48 hours) prior to the appointment. Just drop a message to update us.

Any shorter notice will forfeit the paid fees, as we have to pay our committed counsellor and the reserved counselling space.
